Medical Equipment “Traffic Jam”
Earlier this week on the MERC LinkedIn page, we posted a picture of a very “full” equipment storage room and compared it to a traffic jam. This got me thinking…
Is your facility dealing with a traffic jam? Do you have equipment stacked up, being underutilized, or don’t know where to find it when you need it? The first step to solving this issue is a common theme in “The Capital Equipment Viewpoint” – an inventory. A thorough asset inventory will let you know what you have and if there are any lingering issues with that portfolio of equipment.
Let’s say you are in a traffic jam; what causes this? If you have more equipment than needed, you could be spending in excess on storage, repair, and regulatory compliance. Right sizing will streamline the associated expenses and help you regain some space – lessening the jam.
Do you have equipment that you do not know how to get to quickly or where it is at any given moment? This leads to ineffective utilization and the potential for buying excess, not to mention staff time when they go on a wild goose chase to locate the needed item.
Ok, so what do we do after an inventory shows we’re in a “jam”? This is the time to verify demand. If you have more than you need reallocation to other facilities or a liquidation plan is necessary. Not only will you clear out some space but potentially recover some funds.
In each of these circumstances, the end goal remains the same: efficiency and saving money. Let us know if you are dealing with a “traffic jam” or another asset management issue. We’ve got your back!
